Summer Sketches: Loki and Lulu

The mister and I adopted a new pound puppy last month, Loki. I finally caved about the second dog issue as an anniversary present. We meant for him to keep our sheepdog, Lulu, company. And, he looks like the Wolf from all the old Little Red Riding Hood illustrations, which is pretty great.

Though Loki came to us already knowing not to potty inside or eat our stuff, it's about all he knows. He's been learning all the necessary things for life with a family -- sitting, laying down, coming when called, walking with a leash, etc. It's pretty time-consuming, but better than having a feral beast wandering through my kitchen or running off to explore a highway on my watch. He can jump 5ft fences and when we discovered this on his second day, I clocked him at 30mph while chasing him down through west Denver. He can also tear apart a steel kennel. What a great set of skills to have in a dog!

So, that's about all I've been doing since we came home from the pound. "Loki, sit...No...Loki, sit!...Dang it, Loki, sit!....Oh, good boy!...Wait, come back! Loki! Sit again!...Loki...Loki..."

All Lulu wants out of life is to eat and nap. Loki wants to play. Poor Lulu. She's been wandering about searching for a quiet corner with a perpetual look of the deepest disdain and irritation.

A few months more training and Lulu and I can get back to life as we like it. Maybe... Right?
